Alumnus Kelcy Warren’s Historic Gift Propels UT Arlington to the Forefront of Resource and Energy Engineering
In a transformative move that will forever shape the future of The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), alumnus Kelcy Warren has made a historic $12
million philanthropic investment, marking the largest single donation in the
university’s history. This generous gift will propel UTA to the forefront of
the rapidly growing field of resource and energy engineering (REE).
Kelcy Warren, an accomplished executive chairman and chairman of the Board of Directors of
Energy Transfer LP, recognizes the critical need for highly skilled graduates
who can effectively manage energy resources. As an alumnus of UTA with a degree
in Civil Engineering, Warren understands the pivotal role that the university
has played in his own educational and professional journey.
To honor Kelcy Warren’s outstanding contribution, UTA will name three endowed REE academic
positions, as well as REE laboratory space, a career experience center, and
scholarship/fellowship recipients. The funding will also support research
experiences for undergraduate engineering students, providing them with
invaluable hands-on opportunities.
The Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in Resource and Energy Engineering will recruit and
retain a world-class faculty member to lead the program. Additionally, two
Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty Fellowships will attract distinguished scholars to
enhance the educational experience for REE students.
UTA aims to establish itself as a national leader in the REE field, and this historic gift
will play a vital role in achieving that goal. The university plans to launch
its REE bachelor’s degree program in the fall of 2023, making it the first of
its kind in the United States. This innovative program will equip students with
the necessary skills to apply engineering principles to the design,
development, and operational evaluation of energy generation, storage,
conversion, and distribution systems.
UTA President Jennifer Cowley expressed her gratitude for Warren’s philanthropic vision and
the lasting impact it will have on the university. Kelcy Warren
believes that this transformative gift will position UTA as a national leader
in resource and energy engineering, addressing the increasing demand for
skilled graduates in the energy sector.
Kelcy Warren’s extraordinary generosity reflects his ongoing commitment to UTA and its mission
to empower students to excel in the energy industry. With this historic gift,
UTA will continue to educate and inspire generations of engineers who will
shape the future of energy generation and conservation. As UTA continues to
prioritize excellence in education and innovation, the university is grateful
for Kelcy Warren’s unprecedented support. With this historic investment, UTA
will reinforce its position as a pioneer in resource and energy engineering and
create a lasting impact on the lives of students and the energy industry as a whole.
